German Foreign Minister visits Lebanon

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier on May 29, 2014 arrived in Lebanon for a two-day official visit during which he held talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam and his Lebanese counterpart Gebran Bassil.

Main subject of the talks – which were also attended by Lebanon's ambassador to Germany Dr. Mustapha Adib and Germany's ambassador to Lebanon Mr. Christian Clages – was Lebanon’s political and economic stability as well as continuing support for the country in view of the pressures caused by the war in neighbouring Syria.

Steinmeier pledged an additional five million euros in German support for Syrian refugees. He also announced that Berlin was willing to host an international conference to raise funds for Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
